SYP Opens 2025 Committee Applications

The Society of Young Publishers is accepting applications for volunteers to join the 2025 committees of seven of its eight branches: Ireland, London, North, Oxford, South West, Wales and the UK.


Committee positions last for one year, and they are a great way to upskill and learn about publishing, all while helping others get INTO and AHEAD in the publishing and books industries. From Social Media to Podcast Officers and Website Officers to InPrint team members, there is a position for everyone, no matter their interests or skills. No experience is required.

Children’s Communications Assistant at Faber & Faber

Closing Date: 24 November 2024

Are you passionate about children’s publishing? Faber & Faber are recruiting a Communications Assistant to join their Children’s team.


This is a fantastic opportunity to learn all about children’s publishing from within a leading independent publishing house. Reporting to the Children’s Publicity Manager, you will provide general administrative and organisational support to the team, focusing on publicity campaigns and social media. Key administrative responsibilities include booking travel for authors, assisting with mailings and handling publicity and marketing enquiries whilst working closely with libraries and school reading organisations to highlight Faber Children’s titles. You will also support the team with events, launches, key campaigns, researching media contacts and partnerships. Expect to build and manage relationships with bloggers, coordinate blog tours and maintain the children’s blogging database. As you develop, you will work towards looking after awards submissions for the Faber Children’s list.


Faber & Faber is ideally looking for an excellent communicator with a creative eye for detail, superb organisational skills and an aptitude for social media. No publishing experience is necessary, but prior administrative experience is essential.


This position is based in Central London and the company can accommodate hybrid working.

Digital Support Assistant at Hodder Education

Closing Date: 9 December 2024 

Salary: £24,840

Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire


Are you interested in working within the Sales Department of one of the largest publishing groups in the UK? Would you like to assist a division that helps put out educational resources? Well, Hodder Education has opened a role for a Digital Support Assistant. 


The role entails helping digital customers with any issues, from ordering and accessing their online subscription services to maximising their use of these services. Other responsibilities include receiving customer calls and emails through the Zendesk ticketing system, where you will be expected to advise them on finding solutions through the company’s standard routes. 


The successful candidate will be a clear and confident communicator who is able to deliver great customer support by keeping customers informed and managing queries. You will be highly organised and able to work independently while also being a team player. Alongside these traits, you will also need to commit to learning various new IT systems and be interested in the education sector.


This role will be full time and hybrid at their Didcot office, with the candidate expected to work three days a week from the office.

Office Administrator at Michael O’Mara

Closing Date: 5 December 2024

Salary: £26,500

Location: London


Do you possess strong administrative skills and wish to join a busy independent publishing house? If so, Michael O’Mara is looking for an office administrator to start in January 2025. 

As you will be expected to answer general enquiries and must be comfortable liaising between multiple departments, the ability to multi-task is a key requirement. The successful candidate will also produce sales materials and help to organise book fairs, which is an exciting opportunity. As the responsibilities vary in this busy environment, you must be well organised, and at least twelve months of office experience is preferred. 


Michael O'Mara is looking for a technically proficient candidate with experience in Microsoft Excel and Word, Adobe packages and/or Canva. You must be keen to get stuck in, and an interest in publishing is desirable.
