Marketing and Publicity - Hawthorn Press

Salary: £15 an hour

Location: Stroud but fully remote/home based.


You will be working on new projects, giving feedback on book blurbs and AI sheets, devising promotional and marketing campaigns and organising and promoting book launches. You will also be sending out press releases and media stories, liaising with authors and the media, designing and posting adverts and more.


Being familiar with book systems such as Onix, Stison and Edelweiss is desirable as well as networking abilities, and you must have your own computer.

Editorial Assistant - Bloomsbury Visual Arts

Bloomsbury are looking for an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative and organisational support within Bloomsbury Visual Arts, part of their academic division.


You will be working on the Architecture list, assisting the Publisher for Architecture in the effective management of print and digital products throughout the publication process. This includes liaising with authors to ensure typescripts are delivered on time, preparing typescripts for production (including evaluating image quality and selection, and securing images), writing and editing marketing and cover copy, briefing cover designs, sending proposals and draft typescripts for review, and conducting market research to help in the development of new book projects. Administrative duties include creating and maintaining accurate title records on internal Bloomsbury databases and managing the backlist and reprint administration.


The ideal candidate will be an effective collaborator and communicator with excellent written and verbal skills. The candidate will have a good eye for spelling, grammar and punctuation and design. They must have exceptional organisational, time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills, a willingness to take the initiative and work independently. In terms of industry knowledge and experience, Bloomsbury are looking for someone committed to a career in academic and student publishing - while some commercial awareness and understanding of the publishing industry is desirable, it’s not necessary to have prior publishing experience (although this would be an advantage).

Publicity Assistant - Little Brown Book Group (Hachette)

Salary: £24,000

Little Brown Book Group are looking for a publicity assistant!


You will be working closely with the Publicity Directors, supporting their campaigns and assisting with author visits and events. As well as liaising with the media, you will be responsible for the efficient management of the department’s day-to-day administrative processes. You will be part of the creative process from the outset, providing feedback on acquisitions proposals and covers, designing the bi-annual catalogue and creating regular publicity newsletters and internal updates. There will be plenty of opportunity to work on your own campaigns as you gain experience in the role.


The ideal candidate will be confident, enthusiastic, efficient and will bring passion and fresh ideas to the role. Little Brown are looking for someone who is highly organised who thrives in a busy environment and is able to multi-task and prioritise effectively. Exceptional communication skills, both written and spoken, are required, as well as excellent social media skills. A knowledge of Word, Excel, Canva and PowerPoint is vital and a passion for books, media and communication is a must. A strong interest in BookTok is also a plus!

Internships

Intern x2 - Prepress Projects


Prepress Projects is looking for one or possibly two interns to join their team!


You will be assisting one or more of their production teams to deliver publications on schedule to the required level of quality. Your tasks will be tailored to your specific skills, but you are likely to be styling and preparing files for copy-editing, as well as collating proofs and proofreading. You will also be working on some journal project-management tasks. You may also have the chance to become permanent staff!


The ideal candidate will be smart and resourceful and will have an excellent command of English, as well as at least a basic understanding of scientific terminology. Studying for or possessing a degree in an academic or publishing subject is essential and applications from postgraduate publishing students are welcome.
