Publicity Assistant at Hurst Publishers

Working in publishing and publicity – what could be better? If these are two fields that interest you, then we’ve got a job opportunity for you!


Hurst Publishers are looking for a new Publicity Assistant to join their team full time, helping to promote all their trade and academic books. This is an exciting opportunity where you will take on many roles such as organising events and managing social media. Hurst’s books are regularly featured in many well-known news outlets, so run a very busy publicity department. This role would require you to pitch to various media outlets, draft press releases and liaise with other departments in the company.


A successful candidate will be up-to-date with current affairs and trends, have a genuine interest in the books produced and have excellent attention to detail and organisation skills. Whilst publishing experience is always appreciated, it is not necessary for this role! Find out more here.


Design Assistant at Dorling Kindersley (DK)

Salary: £27,000–£29,000

Location: London, hybrid


The DK Knowledge division is looking to welcome a Design Assistant to their team!

The person chosen for this role will receive the chance to help with all design aspects ranging from the first rough sketch to the final illustration. DK Knowledge produces illustrated reference books for a whole host of categories, including subjects like science and history to materials published specifically for children and families.


If interested, you will be required to have a working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. DK also asks that you be open to learning other software as needed. A passion for publishing is always a plus and a skillset that includes typographic and design skills along with project management will be essential for this job.

Personal Assistant at Dorling Kindersley (DK)

This position will look after the Publishing Director of the DK Knowledge division. A list of day-to-day activities includes, but is not limited to, schedule management, overseeing invoices and expenses, booking travel and entertainment, co-ordinating agendas, taking minutes during meetings and working with other teams and departments. This role requires great organisation and administration skills from an individual who is able to take initiative when they feel the need to do so. Operations Assistant at Hachette UK

Closing Date: 15 April 2023

Salary: £23,850

Location: Sheffield, hybrid option with three in-office and two work from home days


The Octopus Publishing Group at Hachette UK has a vacancy in their Editorial Operations department. The role is based in Sheffield with a hybrid work option.


The Operations Assistant will be tasked with managing data in the publishing system, Biblio 3. This includes being able to create, look after and clean any and all data as needed. General administrative tasks are also involved with this assistant position. If you are interested in learning about the operations side of publishing and witnessing how the different departments work together, this is the job for you.


Octopus Publishing Group is searching for an individual who has a sharp eye for accuracy and detail, good organisation skills and who is comfortable with database software and able to learn new systems. Editorial Assistant at Triglyph Books

Salary: £23,000–£28,000

Location: Sussex


A wonderful opportunity to join Triglyph Books, a high-end illustrated books publishing house, as an Editorial Assistant has arisen!


If successful with your application, you will be tasked with responsibilities such as helping revise manuscripts, proofreading, prepping manuscripts to be sent to other departments, communicating with authors, answering internal and external queries and general administrative tasks.


The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication abilities, good time management, interpersonal skills, initiative, a creative mind, great organisational skills and the ability to work well in a team.
