Society of Young Publishers Reboots Book Club

By Conor Hodges and Georgia Appleyard

The Society of Young Publishers (SYP) has announced a reboot of its bi-monthly book club for readers to make new bookish friends whilst discussing their latest reads. Whilst the SYP has continually offered regional book clubs, this marks a nationwide club to bring together the SYP community and connect book lovers across the UK.

The book club will meet virtually every other month via Zoom, with the first instalment set for 7 p.m. on 31 July. The first book pick is Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi, winner of the 2021 Women’s Prize for Fiction. Piranesi, described as an “elegant and singular novel” (The Guardian), explores an enchanting parallel world inspired by the works of 18th-century Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi through the eyes of an amnesiac protagonist. Anyone is welcome to join the discussion whether they have finished reading the book or not.

The meeting will last for approximately an hour, and everyone will have the opportunity to share their thoughts. At the end of the meeting, there will be an opportunity to suggest books for future discussions for the group to vote on. New members are always welcome, simply sign up via Eventbrite to register and receive the invitation ahead of the meeting. Keep up with the latest SYP news and events at @SYP_UK or on their website.
