Publishing Trainee with Edinburgh University Press

Want to train at an esteemed publishing house and kickstart your career in academic publishing? Edinburgh University Press have opened applications for a six-month traineeship based in the editorial department. If you’re interested in humanities and social sciences, read on!
The trainee will learn the fundamentals of academic publishing, from attending in-person committee meetings and book launches to managing a Title Management System. Other key responsibilities include managing contracts, dealing with peer review, preparing metadata and developing customer service skills. This may sound overwhelming, but the trainee will have the full support of three experienced staff members to guide them through the traineeship, as well as a mentor. Although the trainee will be based in the editorial team, they will have monthly rotational placements in other departments such as sales, marketing, rights and production.
The successful applicant must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and being a collaborative team player is essential. You must possess digital skills and know how to use AI tools appropriately, as your training will cover the implications of Open Access and AI. Publishing is a fast-paced industry with multiple deadlines to meet, so having prioritisation skills is essential.
The role is hybrid, with an expectation of in-office work in Edinburgh two days a week.

Operations & Production Development Assistant

Are you a fantasy fiction fanatic? Do you love book subscription boxes? If you said yes, this new role is for you! FairyLoot, the UK-based book subscription company renowned for their beautiful boxes and gorgeous, exclusive editions, are seeking an Operations & Production Development Assistant.
FairyLoot, founded in 2016, is dedicated to bringing beautifully crafted books and boxes to their audience with whom they share a passion for all things fantasy, adventure and magic. They champion creativity and storytelling, making every reading experience a memorable one, transporting readers to faraway lands.
As Operations & Production Development Assistant, you will liaise closely with the Head of Operations & Product Development and the whole Product Development team to provide essential support. Key responsibilities include maintaining and coordinating timelines and tracking multiple projects, collaborating and providing support across multiple teams, managing files, researching trends, quality control and logistics support.
The successful candidate will be naturally organised, adaptable and a strong communicator. A passion for the fantasy genre is a must, as knowledge of the genre and its trends is key for this role. Being able to collaborate creatively and provide an eye for detail is also essential, as is a strong knowledge of the FairyLoot brand and its audience.
Prior experience in project management, coordination or operations in any industry is desirable but not required. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills are a must as you will be liaising with internal teams, suppliers and shipping partners. Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office and project management platforms, as well as a basic knowledge of file and asset management, is also required for this role.

Assistant Art Coordinator at FairyLoot

Do you want to support the art side of one of the UK’s well-loved bookish subscription services? Are you excellent at managing schedules and maintaining relationships with artists? If so, FairyLoot’s new Assistant Art Coordinator position may be for you.
This entry-level role has you working under the lead Art Coordinator in FairyLoot’s Book Development Team, where you will be expected to handle the smooth running of high-quality artwork and delivery. Responsibilities include creating briefs for artists to follow, file management and artwork tracking to database updates, being a point of contact for artists and handling quality review checks that meet the company’s expectations.
The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in FairyLoot’s mission, book design and illustrations in the fantasy space. You will be able to handle organising and tracking multiple projects and have confidence engaging with both verbal and written instructions. Essential skills and requirements include confidence with Adobe Suite and Google Suite, experience in printing with special finishes, understanding the art styles that are associated with the special editions and maintaining confidentiality.
This role is remote (UK-based only) with the option for equipment provided. There are also opportunities for virtual and in-person team events.
