Editorial Assistant at Modern Poetry in Translation

Closing Date: 31 August 2026

Salary: £6,750 per year, based on fifty days worked

Location: Remote


Want to apply for an entry level role in editorial? Interested in contributing to an internationally renowned magazine that spans across several decades and values poetry in translation? Modern Poetry in Translation is seeking an Editorial Assistant to support their small team to spread the passion for translated poetry across various cultures.

Alongside the Editor and your team, you will be working on two substantial print issues each year, while also contributing to MPT’s digital programme, events and global reach. Within this varied role, you will be expected to read and select submitted work with the Editor’s guidance as well as work with on-board freelancers by providing information to typesetters, cover artists, designers, printers and proofreaders. You will assist with the digital team on developing the online programmes (reviews, workshops, translator-in-residence). You will be expected to support MPT’s branding and liaise with contributors, confirm permissions and send review copies.


The ideal candidate will be someone who is knowledgeable in translated poetry and the publications that MPT values and you should have an awareness of the care that goes into translating. You will be confident in your spoken and written English and have some experience with editing, proofreading and copy-editing. A good handle on time management and collaboration is also a must.


This role is remote, but you must be able to commute to three events per year. There will be times you have to work irregular hours.

Accounts Assistant at Hachette UK Distribution

Salary: £25,000–£30,000

Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire


Looking to work in administration within finance or wanting to further your accounting knowledge? Interested in being a part of a leading UK book distribution company with one of the most advanced distribution centres in Europe? Hachette UK Distribution are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join their Distribution Finance department.


The role will have you work on key tasks like authorisation and chasing of all division accounts payable invoices. When necessary, you will be expected to calculate and raise the monthly sales invoices to clients for Hachette’s services as well as answering publisher queries, maintaining several analysis spreadsheets, managing supplier queries and providing prompt solutions and offering ad-hoc support to the Distribution Finance team. 

In addition, you will also be expected to answer client queries in line with the agreed Service Level Agreements and be able to maintain a level of confidentiality in regard to financial data and sensitive business and publisher information.


The ideal candidate will show competency in handling accurate financial data records and will be comfortable working with Excel, ideally SAP or a similar ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software. You will be proactive in your approach to tasks, while showing flexibility when working on tasks under pressure. You will also have strong written and verbal skills to handle liaising with different departments and clients. Lastly, it would be helpful if you have previous experience in an administrative role.


This full-time role will be based in their Didcot, Oxfordshire office.

Editor at Hachette Children’s Group

Salary: Circa £33,000 depending on experience and location

Location: Sheffield or London


Are you an experienced editor looking to take the next step in your publishing career? Interested in managing the publication of teen non-fiction titles? Hachette Children’s Group, one of the UK’s largest children’s publishers, are searching for an imaginative and organised Editor to join their team. 


Reporting to the Commissioning Editor, this fixed-term twelve-month contract will have you overseeing the publication process from acquisition to the finished product. The successful applicant will become the lead editor for several authors, ensuring their projects are of high quality, on time and within budget. 


From project managing titles to writing copy, the responsibilities of this role are varied, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and can balance multiple priorities. The Editor will deliver exceptional editorial service, collaborating closely with colleagues from other departments to help prepare titles for publication. They will also liaise with authors, external partners and illustrators, so communication and the ability to develop positive working relationships are key.

Hachette Children’s Group are seeking someone who has excellent editorial skills and previous experience with development and structural editing. The ideal candidate will also have a strong understanding of the importance of author care, and they will be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the non-fiction and children’s market. Other requirements include organisation, confidence in working to multiple deadlines and the ability to collaborate with others. Knowledge of Biblio and InDesign is an advantage, though not essential.

The successful candidate can choose to work in either the Hachette office in Sheffield or London, and they offer hybrid working.
