Customer Service Advisor at Hachette UK Distribution

Looking to break into the publishing industry, but your experience lies in hospitality, retail or customer service? Hachette UK Distribution is recruiting a Customer Service Advisor to deliver first-class customer service and support their continued growth.
As the UK’s leading book distribution company, Hachette Distribution supplies one out of every four books to the UK trade, shipping 60 million books globally each year. If you are chosen for the position, you will support the delivery of exceptional customer service by responding to emails and telephone calls, issuing refunds and investigating claims. Other responsibilities include coordinating deliveries, organising collections with carriers and preparing and processing orders received from publishers and customers. As well as liaising with customers and publishers, you will also communicate with other departments to problem-solve and ensure that targets are met.
The role presents an exciting opportunity to gain experience in the distribution aspect of publishing and is perfect for those who want to use the skills they have acquired through customer service jobs. Strong communication is paramount, as is the ability to develop successful relationships. Graphic Designer at Search Press

Interested in joining an award-winning family-run independent business with a specialty in arts and crafts publishing? Have some design skills in printing with a confident commercial eye? Search Press are looking for a Graphic Designer who is well-versed in current design trends to help them within the design and editorial department.
Working under the Head of Design, you will be expected to work on a range of tasks from a book’s conception to print-ready files, keeping in mind the publisher’s brand, while exhibiting a range of styles. Collaborating with members of different departments from editorial, production and outsourced freelancers, you will be expected to manage different stages like creating mood boards, art-directing and planning in-house photoshoots at their studio, preparing briefs for illustrators and photographers and providing feedback for artwork. You will also be expected to perform technical checks with the Production team, including: creating print-ready PDFs, correcting files for updates and reprints and checking and signing off proofs.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is comfortable working across Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) with an existing level of design knowledge, preferably in arts and crafts. You will have a BA or equivalent in design and have experience in designing for print. You will also be a confident communicator and be organised with the ability to multitask. Foremost, you will be someone with a drive to improve themselves and fit in with the creative team.
This full-time, in-house role is based at their office in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Editorial Assistant at Oneworld

Oneworld is an independent publisher based in London who publish over 100 books a year and whose titles have won numerous literary prizes and accolades. They are seeking an assistant editor to work specifically in their non-fiction department, specialising in historical, scientific and social publications. This role is in place to support both the editor and author throughout the editorial process. Duties and responsibilities include: giving texts a second edit and collating corrections, clearing image permissions, drafting marketing copy, proofreading and fact-checking copy, working with metadata, researching potential new titles and working together with team members from all areas of the publishing process.
This role is full-time, permanent and hybrid - based in London Monday to Thursday and working from home on Fridays. The salary is £27,000 and dependent on experience.
The suitable candidate is someone who has graduated from university, preferably in a related degree, looking to begin their career in independent publishing, with an interest or knowledge of history, science and/or social sciences. They will preferably have great attention to detail, proficiency using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, talent in writing and the ability to work with others in a hardworking and motivated manner.
