Academic Editorial Apprentice, History and Linguistics at Bloomsbury

Bloomsbury has a number of editorial apprenticeships available at the moment in their Academic division. The first of these positions is specifically for their History, Philosophy, Education and Linguistics department.


As an apprentice, you will be tasked with helping the editorial team with administrative duties and supporting the team throughout the editorial process. Bloomsbury is searching for someone who is highly organised, an excellent communicator, a team player and someone with proven IT skills using Microsoft Office.

Academic Editorial Apprentice, Visual Arts at Bloomsbury

Closing Date: 31 August 2023

Salary: £21,000

Location: London


The second of Bloomsbury’s apprenticeships is within their Visual Arts editorial team.


A few responsibilities outlined for this position include putting together cover briefs and copies, reaching out for peer reviews, ordering copies of books and physical and electronic file management. The ideal apprentice will possess an interest in the academic side of publishing, have an awareness of the market and care deeply about the relationships the company has with authors and customers.

Academic Editorial Apprentice at Bloomsbury

The last of the apprenticeships currently open at Bloomsbury will assist the editorial team with items pertaining to International Development, Politics, Asia, African and Middle East Studies.


The selected candidate will work closely with the editorial, marketing, and production teams in order to provide the best service possible for customers and authors. The apprentice will assist the editorial team with file and data management using Biblio, tracking any changes to projects and making sure the changes fit the specific project timeframe, receive and respond to queries from those in and outside of the company and general administrative tasks as needed.

Publishing Assistant at Saqi Books

Location: London (hybrid with three days in-office and two work from home)


Saqi Books, a leading independent publishing house known for boundary-breaking works, seeks a highly organised and motivated publishing professional to join their team. This role offers insight across key publishing departments, involving collaboration with editorial, rights, marketing and sales teams to support the publishing program.


The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, a team player and has an interest in the Middle East. Responsibilities include assisting in the editorial process, managing submissions, proofreading and copyediting. Other tasks involve contracts, sales materials, event logistics and administrative duties. Strong attention to detail, IT skills and the ability to handle information are essential. Bloomsbury, one of the biggest publishing houses, has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual looking to get their foot in the door within the publishing industry. They are looking for an Editorial Assistant within their Academic Fashion and Textiles list. The list publishes textbooks, academic research papers and supplementary texts.


The candidate will support the department in administrative work by liaising with authors, customers and other various departments within the publishing house. The ideal candidate will have good time management, confident communicative skills and be able to work independently with strong IT skills. They should also have an interest in academic publishing itself as well as an awareness of the market.

This full-time position at Atlantic Books is the perfect entry-level role for someone looking to get into the publishing industry. Atlantic Books is an independent publisher of fiction, memoirs, history, politics and current affairs.


The role as Publishing Assistant requires the candidate to work across both the editorial and rights departments, meaning the selected candidate will get experience in both areas of publishing. Key responsibilities include liaising with authors and other departments, administrative work, managing databases, proofreading copy, assisting with submissions and other enquiries as well as helping to organise book fairs and other appointments. The ideal candidate will be good at organising with good verbal and written skills in addition to having a passion for the industry.
