Production Assistant at Quarto 


Closing Date: 6 July 2024

Salary: £25,500

Location: London


Interested in working in book production and have a desire to grow into the profession? The Quarto Group has a newly opened position for a Production Assistant who will provide administrative and department support towards Quarto’s internationally leading illustrated books.


The role involves being a key support on Quarto’s busy production department involving reporting for the team, maintaining the production library and keeping work organised and systems updated. The candidate will also be learning and honing their production skills through the department’s processes and will have the chance to take on their own list of books.


The ideal candidate will have some initial office experience working within a busy environment and team. They will show a commitment to engaging with the fast-paced environment by regularly asking questions and bringing a good level of organisation by prioritising and managing their workload efficiently. Additionally, they will be a problem-solver and find solutions to their issues. On the technical side, they should be confident using Microsoft software, including Microsoft Outlook.


This is a full-time position based at the London office and runs on a hybrid policy requiring three days at the office. They also provide summer working hours which can be up for discussion.

Assistant Commissioning Editor at Hymns Ancient and Modern

Salary: £20,000-£30,000

Hymns Ancient & Modern, known for its imprints SCM Press and Canterbury Press, as well as for managing Church House Publishing and Saint Andrew Press, publishes around eighty new books annually. They are seeking a dynamic Assistant Commissioning Editor to join their team, primarily focusing on academic titles under the SCM Press imprint and supporting their broader publishing programme. This full-time role is ideal for someone at an early stage in their academic publishing career looking to advance to the next level.


The key responsibilities include commissioning new scholarly titles for the SCM Press imprint with the guidance of the Publishing Director, collaborating with Series Editors to develop existing and new academic series, and providing essential editorial support to ensure timely manuscript delivery. The role also involves assisting with maintaining and updating publication schedules, managing the peer review process, evaluating manuscripts, advising authors on revisions, and helping with cover artwork and endorsements.


The ideal candidate will have some prior experience in providing editorial or administrative support within an academic publishing list and a good working knowledge of the editorial process in scholarly publishing. Production Assistant at Fane


Closing Date: 10 July 2024

Salary: £27,000

Location: Bloomsbury, London


Are you considering a career in production? Searching for a way to develop a wide range of skills? Fane are looking for a Production Assistant to join their team!


This role crosses a variety of departments, you will be involved in managing everything from event coordination, all the way to logistics. Fane is a producer of spoken word events, as well as running LoveMyRead: The home of gifting books online. It is an ideal entry-level role for any book lover and an excellent opportunity to gain invaluable experience in the industry. 


The Production Assistant will be expected to carry out administrative duties, maintaining and managing company-wide calendars, production files and client details. You will be the company's go-to for any customer service enquiries, working and attending events regularly across the UK as the Fane representative. 


As you will be creating, negotiating and filing contracts, exceptional attention to detail is key. You must have superb communication skills, both written and verbal. The successful candidate will be able to liaise with producers and external stakeholders such as venues, agents, publishers and corporate clients confidently. The team is looking for someone with a positive can-do attitude, with excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment to short deadlines. Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to any situation. Prior knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes is vital and any experience in events or similar environments would be advantageous.
